Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist by Liz Kessler

Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist is the third and last book in a series of books. This book is about a girl named Emily Windsnap who is human but when her whole body gets in the water or gets wet she then becomes a mermaid. Emily and her friend Shona (who is a real mermaid) go to the island that Emily lives on with their mermaid classmates to look for jewels for the ruler of the ocean, Neptune. I really liked this book because it is exciting, fun, you get in to it and you never want to stop reading it. If you want to find out more about this book then you should start reading this great book soon. (It would be even better if you started today)!

Asterix and the Falling Sky by Albert Uderzo

I like how the illustrations were painted.  The words were sort of easy to read.  The part I like was when everyone except Asterix, Obelix and Druid Getafix were frozen.  It is funny!  I like this book and I guarantee you will like this book too. ~ David, age 8

Have you ever read Amelia Bedelia? Well she is this CRAZY house keeper that thinks her bosses tell her to do one thing but they really mean something else. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert G. O'Brien

I like this book because it is funny (kind of), and adventurous.  My favorite part in the book is when Mrs. Frisby (a mouse) is sneaking "cat's powder" into the cat's bowl.  Mrs. Frisby lives on Farmer Fitzgibbon's farm land, and the cat, Dragon, is their cat.  Well, Mrs. Frisby is scampering across the floor, and the next thing, WHAM!  Bill, the younger son, captures her!  He put her in a parrot cage and the startled Mrs. Frisby starts to listen to Mr. Fitzgibbon talk.  "Billy, are you going to keep that mouse?  You know, it's a field mouse, not a pet."  But Billy persists on keeping Mrs. Frisby.  After Billy decides to keep Mrs. Frisby, they start a different conversation about poisoning the "rats".  Oh no!  Mrs. Frisby thinks, I have to tell Justin! ~ Kelsey, age 8

 

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

My favorite part in this book is when ten year old Annemarie was running toward the dock where her Uncle Henrik's boat, Ingeborg, was.  Suddenly, she heard a sound, heavy footsteps.  Two soldiers came out of the bushes, and Annemarie gasped.  "Try to be nothing but a silly little girl carrying lunch to your Uncle who forgot his lunch."  She rememberd her mom's words.  But she knew she wasn't that.  She had something secret in her basket... ~ Kelsey, age 8

 

 

 

 

The Orange Outlaw by Ron Roy

The book Orange Outlaw is a very good book.  The story was about Ruth Rose, Josh and Kink are visiting Dink's uncle "Uncle Warren."  An art thief stole Uncle Warren's painting.  The only clues the kids found were orange peels and orange hair.  So far they thought it was Miss Booker then they found out it was an orangutan who stole the painting.  The kids found the orangutan trainer and he got sent to jail. ~ Albert, age 9

 

 

 

 

The Quicksand Question by Ron Roy

I like the Quicksand Question because it's really interesting.  The story is about a stolen duck bank, and also stolen money.  But anyways, the bad guy is Martin Fleece.  Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose are the main characters.  Josh has a dog named Pal, he also has a pony. ~ May, age 6

 

 

 

 

 

The Snow Child by Harriet Ziefert

I liked this book because there are a lot of pictures.  The story is about an old man and woman who wanted a child.  They created a girl made of snow.  The snow child had to leave when it became spring.  She returned home when it was winter. ~ Victoria, age 9 

 

 

 

 

Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot by Dav Pilkey This book was good.  There were some robots that were from Mars and they were bad.  They were trying to capture Earth but Mighty Robot got them in a battle and they flew home.  I liked this book because it had a lot of action.  It is by the author and creator of another book I know which is Captain Underpants.    ~ Aaron, age 5 

 

 

 

 

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

 I like how Annabelle is full of energy and excitement on finding her aunt and exploring the whole real human house (not doll house) with Tiffany.  I think the part I liked the most was when Uncle Doll was secretly writing in aunt Doll's Journal.  I love this book.  ~ Joyce, age 10 

 

 

 

 

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

 I think it is a very good book.  I like how Leslie is a very creative girl that is Jesse's friend and how they build this place called Terabithia which is really just a place across a creek.  But I kind of like the way it ended.  I think Katherine Paterson did a good job on the book.  I totally recommend the book.  ~ Joyce, age 10

 I like how Annabelle is full of energy and excitement on finding her aunt and exploring the whole real human house (not doll house) with Tiffany.  I think the part I liked the most was when Uncle Doll was secretly writing in aunt Doll's Journal.  I love this book.  ~ Joyce, age 10

Because it has mysterious creatures like dinosaurs because they are cool.  Jack also found a medallion on the top of the hill which is a big mystery.  And Jack is smart - when danger happens he is calm.~ Daniel, age 7 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Amy Goes Fishing by Jean Marzollo

Amy and her dad go out fishing.  Amy's dad has been trying to catch Old Chinny Wiskers for years.  They go to Sam's house to rent a boat and get some worms.  When they go fishing, Amy's dad catches a boot!  Then he tells a story about beavers.  They had lunch with Sam.  When they go back to fishing, Amy catches a fish!  I liked it when Amy's dad catches a boot.  It made me laugh.  I've never been fishing before.  I wonder if it's boring to sit around all day.  If I ever go fishing, I hope to catch a fish! ~ Anyi, age 8

I like when they find that there are ghosts in the bathroom because they have to figure out what they are going to do and they want to know if the school is built under a grave.  Ivy and Bean go in the bathroom and they make a potion and they put it in the bathroom.  And the rest you will have to read on your own.  ~ Meredith, age 8

Oliver and Amanda can't wait until dark.  It's Halloween!  They're going trick-or-treating!  They are helping Mother make doughnuts and they get to eat the insides.  When the doughnuts are ready, Oliver begins counting, "...26, 27, 28, 29, 30...".  "I bet Mother won't need that many."  Amanda knew what he was thinking.  She said that he couldn't have one.  Oliver wanted just one.  So, he climbs up high and tries to reach for one.  But he falls down, and so do the doughnuts.  Mother hears the crash and said he should pick it up.  Amanda said "it's dark already."  Amanda and Oliver went outside.  When Amanda sees Oliver's friends, she thinks they are monsters!  When Oliver and Amanda get home they get a doughnut.  When Amanda saw Oliver's friends and thought they were monsters it was really funny.  It was funny because she didn't even realize it was a costume!  I also liked it when he had to clean up.  He can't just do that! ~ Anyi, age 8

    The thing I like most about this book is it was pretty funny because Minnie and Moo think things positively even when it's bad; such as when people are on the most wanted list from the police, they thought it was nice to know that you're still wanted.  ~ Ethan, age 8

     

     

     

     

     Ghostville Elementary:  Frightening Like Cats and Dogs by Marcia Thornton Jones and Debbie Dadey

    I liked it when Huxley and Cocomo ran out the door with all the pets following them so Nina, Jeff, and Cassidy had to find them. (It was funny.)  I also liked it when the whole class decided to do a pet wash. ~ Eileen, age 9

     

    The Tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (retold) by Eric A. Kimmel

    I like the part when Ali Baba gets the gold after his brother dies. ~Zachary, age 6

    This book is really funny.  It has lots of different monsters and it tells you what to do to scare them away or kill them.  On the vampire's page, it says hanging garlic up in your room will scare away the vampires and your friends, too!  And that's good if one of your friends is a vampire.  ~ Samuel, age 6

     

    Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling

    The Wings of Merlin by Tom A. Barron

    It was full of action, surprises, and it was good.  Probably the best book I've read so far.

    Nate the Great and the Monster Mess by Marjorie Sharmat

    I liked this book.  Nate solved the mystery that his mother wrote a note on the back of the Monster Cookie recipe.  The note said that the recipe was missing - Nate's mother didn't know that! ~ Darryl, grade 2

     

     

     

     

    Nate the Great and the Halloween Hunt by Marjorie Sharmat

    I liked how Nate The Great solved the mystery that Little Hex got inside Rosamond's trick or treat basket.  No wonder her basket was so heavy! ~ Darryl, grade 2

     

     

     

     

     

    The Daytona 500 by A.R. Schaefer

    I like it because I very (much) like Nascar and I like the Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt was in third place coming around spinning. The car went to the bottom of the bank and hit a flat spot. The flat spot sent his car flying to the top of the track and into the wall. Earnhardt died instantly in the collision.  ~ Jacob, age 7

     

     

     

     

    The Wish by Gail Carson Levine

    I liked how Wilma learns that friendship is better than popularity. I also liked the secret life story that Wilma wrote about her dog. It was very funny. I think that the old lady parts were very good. My favorite part is at the Grad Night. I really recommend this book!  ~ Joyce, age 10

     

     

     

     

    Sweet Dreams:  How Animals Sleep by Kimika Kajikawa

    I liked of the book that there was a shark, a koala and a black bear and the sea otter.  That's what I like of the book. ~ Luis, age 6

     

     

     

     

     The Shooting Star by Herge

    I like it because it's funny and I like Captain Haddock. He always says "thundering typhoons".  And I like the part when Tintin slipped on the boat on page 27.~ Daniel, age 7

     

     

     

    High Tide in Hawaii by Mary Pope Osborne

     

    ~ Sydney, age 7

    I liked it because it really felt like a real adventure.  It was funny to see Jack fall in the water.  High tides!  Scary!
